Well, it was predictable. Mr Clarkson was bound to open his mouth and put, not only his foot, but most of his leg, in it. His comments about yesterday’s strike by public service unions were tasteless and insensitive – exactly the kind he is famous for; and for which he has a dedicated following.

Also, just as typically, Mr Miliband (junior), and UNISON, whose parties and members managed only a poor showing on the strike, were not amused. They, and a few thousand humourless individuals, felt the urge to complain.

Mr Clarkson, in fear of losing his far from meagre income, apologised for his remarks. UNISON, magnanimously accepted the apology.

It’s called humour. Get a life, you lot.
